4 Signs It's Time to Hire Someone in Your Business
Knowing when the right time to hire someone can be one of the trickiest issues entrepreneurs and small business owners face.
One the one hand, you know that you can’t continue to grow if you don’t have more help…
But on the other hand, you know it is another expense in your business and you wonder if you really have time to train someone else.
So how do you determine when you are at a point that you actually need to hire more people?
Here are some of the signs that it is time to hire someone:
1. You find yourself procrastinating.
As business owners you probably keep asking yourself how you’re going to get something done.
And some things end up sitting there for a while because you are just not sure how to do it or it just isn’t something that you’re excited to do.
What you need to be asking yourself instead of how you’re going to do it...is who can help me?
Who can you go hire or bring in as a consultant that can help you figure it out.
Getting these things moving again and off your plate will free you up for more value add things in your business.
2. You're getting stuck in operational activities.
If you're not working on bringing in new clients or working directly with clients, that’s another sign that it's a time to bring in somebody to help with those operational processes.
It’s so easy to get sucked up in working on all the little things that need to get done to keep your business going and take you out of the front end of your business. This puts you in survival mode and not growth.
You may actually like working in the business and not necessarily on the business and if you're one of those people you need to think about where your skill sets lie and what's the best person to bring in to help you with those other things.
3. You can’t generate more revenue unless you have more help.
Ask yourself: Is bringing in that person going to generate new profits now or not too far down the road?
Some areas that you may need to hire that will bring you additional revenue could be someone to help set up a new product or service, someone to market a new product or service or someone to support your existing products and services.
You may just be realizing you're missing out on opportunities because you don't have enough staff to handle all the volume that's coming in.
Always be thinking about how bringing on another person can help you generate more revenue by helping you create those products and market those products or freeing up your time so that you can serve more clients.
4. There's a particular task that requires a specific skill set.
As business owners, sometimes you want to go out and learn everything on your own and you think you can be the master of all tasks. Or you just want to figure it out so that you can become the expert.
But you can't master all the things and you shouldn’t have to.
You need to find support for those areas in your business where you can leverage somebody else's experience, instead of getting stuck on trying to learn something for days or weeks, months and sometimes years.
Find someone who's been doing that thing for years and knows exactly what to do.
By bringing experienced people, it's going to help you grow and expand so much faster.
Some examples might be things like getting technical help or running a marketing campaign.
It’s time to take a step back and think about what you really need in your business and how you can get to your goals.
