From Farm Girl to Vice President

My journey has had many twists and turns that have brought me to this place where my mission is to liberate independent success-minded professionals from the shackles of a corporate career so they can start, grow and scale their own businesses and not only replace their corporate income but exceed it.

Every Story Has a Beginning

I grew up on a farm in Michigan. My parents taught me the value of working hard and getting an education.  Even when drought or flooding hit our crops, their tireless effort kept me and my siblings in private school and allowed us to take vacations together every year. [That’s where I got bit by the travel bug!] And their hard work didn’t end there.  They had many different ventures and businesses.

After growing up and doing the hard manual labor on the farm, I was determined to get a good education and land a successful career. I started a career in public accounting and became a corporate accounting manager a few years later. I was advancing fast, with no intention of slowing down. I had a career path laid out, including a strategy for doubling my income every 5 years.

As an ambitious professional, I achieved my goals and felt excited and motivated by my career.  I had been gone from presenting in Board meetings only a couple of years out of college to sitting on the Board and several executive committees.  To many, it looked like I had it all.  I was working for an amazing company, had married my wonderful husband, and was working a lucrative job that allowed me to travel the world.  But it turns out, something was still missing.

Hitting My Plateau

I reached a point in my career where things started to slow down.  Not only had I plateaued, but there was also a glass ceiling above me, and it seemed unbreakable.  I was frustrated and unsure of what to do or where to go next.

So, I began reaching out to my business partners (who I had built outstanding relationships with over the years) to let them know I was ready for a change.  I wanted to explore a new field and tackle some new challenges. That’s when a call came from one of my partners: I have an open position, and you’re the one I want to fill it.

Transitioning from a Director in Accounting to a Vice President in Technology was both exciting and challenging.  It gave me new ways to tap into my leadership skills and find success. I had switched careers overnight, increasing my income without spending years (and more money) in school learning the ins and outs of this new career.

That experience taught me something about myself [and I bet you can relate], if I don't have something new and challenging to do on a regular basis, I get bored and start to lose interest.  I thrive on continual development and improvement. The career change offered that, and it was exciting.

But was it all I was really meant to do?

A New Found Purpose

Having a family is a transformative experience.  After having my 2 amazing daughters, my priorities changed.

I realized I wanted more out of life.

My life was no longer centered around my career but also around being there for my girls and giving them a loving and supporting home. I also realized that:

I still wanted to travel, but on my own terms.

I wanted more out of my career that went beyond my corporate position.

I wanted to help more people and give more back than I ever had before.

I wanted to share what I’d learned both the victories and mistakes with others.

I wanted to help professionals develop leadership skills so they can use their strengths, passion and purpose to realize true success.

But how was I going to make all that happen, with so much already on my plate?

To figure that out, I first had to ask myself an important question: What makes me truly happy?

What lights me up?

Mentoring was the answer for me. Supporting and guiding others was central to my professional calling.  Mentoring was always integral to my career, and offering others guidance is part of what made me a strong leader in the corporate sphere. Knowing the work that truly made me happy was an exhilarating discovery.

That knowledge could allow me to do the work I love, and live the life I’d been longing for.

But that epiphany didn’t come without fear, stress, and uncertainty. So I began working with a life coach and an energy therapist who both helped me find clarity on my goals and work through my fears. I never gave up. I kept the faith and I finally found the answer: receiving high-quality coaching had taught me that coaching itself was my calling.

Since becoming a coach, I’ve helped numerous people discover who they truly are and strengthen the skills they need to step into the roles they truly desire. Together, we uncover their strengths, passion and purpose and give them tools to find the life they’ve always desired. My highly personalized strategy has helped transform lives and careers for the better and I can help you, too.
