How To Work With Clients You Love
How you can work with clients you love?
Wouldn't you love having every client that comes through your door be someone that:
You absolutely adore working with
Lights you up
Gets you excited and motivated throughout your day
Wouldn't that be nice? Well, let's help you get there because you are meant to work with clients you love. You're meant to do more with the people that you want to serve.
Three Things Critical To Being Able To Work With Clients You Adore
1) You have to be clear on who your ideal clients are
You have to really know who they are. What are the things that they like? What are the things that they want to achieve? What's the problem that you're solving for them? Understanding your skillsets and the things that you are going to help them through to make sure they line up with who those people are.
So who are the ideal clients you want to work with?
2) who do you not want to work with?
You have to be just as clear on who you don't want to work with as who you do want to work with.
So get out that piece of paper and start writing down the types of people or characteristics that you do not want to work with.
For instance, I don't want to work with people who aren't open to being coached. I don't want to work with people who aren't ambitious. I love ambitious people. I want people who want more. I want people who want to go out and do more. So I don't want to work with people who are not really ambitious about building their businesses. I don't want to work with someone who is not in the right type of industry, in an area where I don't have the expertise to help them grow. I'm really clear on some of the things that I don't want in my clients.
I don't want someone who is not ready and open to receiving feedback. That's a big one. Would they be open and ready to receive feedback? Because feedback is the only way that you're going to be able to really understand what's working, what's not working, how do I change, how do I shift, how do I go to that next level?
So are you clear on who your ideal clients are? Do you also know who you do not want to work with?
3) You have got to be willing to say no to a non-ideal client
This is such a big one. I think so many people when getting started, feel like they have to work with everybody and that they don't have a choice because they don't have a lot of leads coming in but they do have a choice.
You have a choice in everything!
You get to say yes and you get to say no. And it's your choice, your decision to say, “Yes, this is an ideal client for me and I want to work with them.” Or if you're going through a discovery call or a strategy session with someone and you realize that it's not a good fit, don't feel obligated to share with them what your programs are, and what it's like to work with you. Because if you already know it's not a good fit for you, it's not going to be a good fit for them either.
Instead of taking them on as a client and regretting that later, maybe refer them out to one of your, colleagues who do something similar, and who would be a good fit.
You need to create those relationships with others so that you can refer people to them. And don't send them bad people. It’s more about what's not the right fit for you. And they may be able to help them in a different way. They may be the right fit for them.
You’ve got to be really clear on who your ideal clients are. Make sure you know who you don't want to work with. And be willing to say no to a client. Sometimes we have to fire our clients. It happens, hopefully, it doesn't happen often. But this is what you really need in order to really fall in love with the people you work with. Because you didn't start your business to work with people that frustrate you, people that you don't want to serve in some way or another. You want someone who's going to get you more fired up about what you are doing, right?
So let's get you fired up. Let's get you working with the right people by understanding who you need to be working with, and who you do not need to be working with, and get out there and have clients you absolutely adore and love. Because I can tell you that when that happens, you are excited to get on the call with them. You are excited about what they're doing in their lives and in their business and how you're helping them. You are excited and can serve them in a way that's going to help them grow even faster.
And so I know that you are meant to serve more people. You are meant to serve more people you love because it will make a big difference in your business and in your life.
